Kwalajiya Village in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State was thrown into mourning after more than 20 people were reportedly killed in a brutal terrorist attack in the early hours of Tuesday.
Eyewitnesses, who spoke anonymously, described how heavily armed men stormed the village, firing indiscriminately and setting homes ablaze.
Many villagers, including women and children, are feared dead, with several others still missing.
The village head reportedly fled to a relative’s residence in Sokoto city for safety. His current condition remains unknown, but sources say he narrowly escaped the attack.
Confirming the incident, DSP Ahmed Rufae, Public Relations Officer of the Sokoto State Police Command, acknowledged the attack but withheld further details due to ongoing investigations.
Local sources speculate the attack may have been sparked by the village head’s refusal to allow intermarriage between the community members and affiliates of the Lakurawa terrorist group, though these claims remain unverified.
