APACHE COUNTY, AZ (AZFamily) — A Florida man is heading home after troopers say he got lost in Arizona last week while he thought he was in Georgia.
Around 11:30 a.m. last Thursday, July 3, DPS dispatchers in Apache County received a call from a man requesting help, saying he was thirsty, hungry and about to pass out. He told them he was from Florida, driving a Chevrolet Malibu, and had no idea where he was.
The call soon dropped, and dispatchers were unable to get back in touch with him.

Highway Patrol units were able to pinpoint the man’s position in a remote location of the county on the Navajo Nation, east of US 191. AZDPS Rangers and District 3 troopers responded to the area and located the man just after 4:30 p.m. following an extensive search.
The 80-year-old Florida man told troopers that he thought he was in Atlanta, Georgia, delivering items to a friend. According to DPS, troopers later determined the man suffered from dementia.
He was taken to a hospital for precautionary reasons while arrangements were being made to get him back home.
