The Whispering Gallery, at Grand Central Terminal
Inside Grand Central Terminal —which is well worth a visit in itself for its fascinating architecture—lies a gallery with surprising acoustics, which has given it its name: The Whispering Gallery.
All you have to do is go down to the Dining Concourse and head for the tiled vault next to the Oyster Bar & Restaurant—which is also worth a stop. Then, position yourselves under a pillar, in opposite corners, and whisper words at each other: it will sound as if you were side by side. So surprising!

The hidden underground station City Hall Station
This former underground station is a masterpiece of Romanesque Revival architecture dating back to 1904. Although it has been closed to the large public since 1945, it is still possible to admire it by staying on the Tube 6 after the last station (Brooklyn Bridge / City Hall), while the driver performs his U-turn manoeuvre, or thanks to the few tours organised each year by the Transit Museum.

The fortress of Central Park
Recapture your childlike spirit for a stroll and explore this little-visited site located in Central Park: the Blockhouse. Literally the 'little military fort,' it is one of the oldest buildings in the park, built to protect the city against a possible British Invasion during the War of 1812.
Today, this fort is surrounded by vegetation and rarely visited by tourists. It makes it a tranquil place to dream of a historic New York.
